M.I.A.M. Haneefa (Bahji) Hazrath
(1942 - 2020)
A life dedicated to Islamic education, scholarship, and community service.
Early Life and Education
Born on March 02nd, 1942, in Hemmathagama, Thumpuluwava, to Ibrahim Aalim Sahib and Kadeeja Nachiyar. He came from a family with strong Islamic faith and was the second son in a family of eleven.
He studied at Bahjathul Ibrahimiyya Arabic College in Kandy. After completing his Sharee'a studies, he served as the senior Usthaz at the Rabbaniyya Arabic College.
Teaching Career
In 1973 and 1974, he completed teacher training at the Addalaichenai teacher training college. He also achieved excellence in the Al-Aalim certificate Examination.
Served as an exemplary teacher at Tellangama As-siraj Maha Vidyalaya, Kadugannawa Central College, and Al-Manar National School for 20 years, impacting thousands of students.
Institution Building
In 1999, he established the Al-Haqqaniyya Arabic College with just 21 students, aiming to develop prominent figures in the community.
He also traveled extensively for Da'wah and served as a significant member of Sri Lanka's Thableek Islamic work and Shoora Council.
Legacy
He passed away on June 04, 2020. His vision and dedication continue to live on in the hearts of thousands and the ongoing success of the institutions he helped build.
