Dawra Hadhees

Higher Education

The advanced study of Hadith and its intricate chains of narration.

Introduction to Hadith

Hadith encompasses the sayings, practices, and approvals of Allah's Apostle, Muhammad (saw). His companions memorized these hadiths, lived by them, and spread them verbally across generations.

When the study of hadith began to wane, the Indian scholar Shah Waliyullah Dihlawi journeyed to Hijaz to learn from prominent scholars. Returning to India, he revitalized Hadith studies at Raheemiyyah College, teaching the six major books along with their "Isnad" (chain of narrators). This tradition spread worldwide, forming the basis of our current Dawra Hadhees program.

Teaching Method

In this course, approximately 28,000 hadiths from the six prominent books are analyzed. The methods focus heavily on the chain of narrators:

  • The teacher reads the hadith and its chain, explains it, and students listen.
  • A student reads the hadith and chain, the teacher explains, while the class follows.

Course Benefits

  • Preservation of Purity Following Isnad prevents falsifications. As Imam Abdullah bin Mubarak stated, "If not for the Isnath, everybody can say whatever we want."
  • Deep Comprehension Learners gain a deep understanding of the primary sources of Shariah disciplines introduced during their previous Moulavi/Aalim training.

Growth in Sri Lanka

Introduced to Sri Lanka in 1994 to preserve these profound traditions organically, it quickly spread among elite colleges. Al-Haqqaniyya inaugurated its intensive one-year Dawra Hadhees course with 8 highly qualified teachers, and it continues to attract a significant number of Ulamas nationwide.
